Such a definite theme has emerged these past few weeks! I assure you these cards are drawn entirely at random—as random as a well-shuffled deck of seventy-eight cards can be, anyway. With each week, and each reinforcement of this theme, I am paying closer attention. Maybe these messages are pointedly meant for me, and you are the innocent bystanders, but I hope you are getting something from them, too.
The Reading
We last saw this card, upright, in August. Reversed, the seven of wands asks us to bravely consider where there are points of hesitation in our lives. What is preventing us from moving forward confidently? Do we, in fact, give up too easily?
Sometimes the goals we fantasize about reaching seem too far-fetched because, ugh, to reach them we will have to put in real work and make real sacrifices. And so we hesitate. We don’t believe we have what it takes because these lofty goals don’t come to us merely because we dreamed them up.
The fallacy that dreams come true simply by dreaming them is reinforced so often in our culture, from fairytales right on through to celebrity in all kinds of industries and artistic fields. Don’t fall for it.
The seven of wands reversed is a nudge to put forth real effort—to fein that confidence, if need be. To fake it ‘til we make it. What if we allowed ourselves to not be good at something and to boldly learn something new—and stick with it through all the rough parts? Learning to walk, learning to talk, learning to not say every thought that passes through our minds—if you remember back that far, there were some tough, tough lessons there! We made fools of ourselves. Learning is an inelegant process sometimes.
What if we allow ourselves to be that child again and put in the work to make that twinkling, far-off dream come true?
By the way, I hear a lot about goal setting, goal achieving, and not so much about the thing that needs to be established before we even get to goals: purpose. This week, before you sketch out your strategy and commit to following through, pause and define your overarching purpose. Pull a card or two for inspiration ✨
Pair With the Card of the Year
With the five of wands, our card of the year, the seven of wands reversed indicates a time of conflict and a feeling of being overwhelmed. This could be an external force—a person or people, an institution—or the conflict could be within yourself. Whatever the source, the remedy here is to take beat and consider your priorities. Perhaps, by taking a different view, you can find a point of cooperation—a creative way to solve what might feel insurmountable. Use this opportunity to build confidence.
